Left On
Dear Jon,
As a fellow left-hander, I would like to invite you to join a certain club. http://www.lefthandersday.com/tour2.html
My softball team that I was raving about in my last post had four left-handed people on it! Four! In high school our friend group was also more lefty than you would think. This got me thinking, why am I friends with so many lefty’s? My mom is left-handed, and so is my brother, leaving only my dad to be logical and good at math.
This website asks that you double check that your e-mail is correct when applying for the left-handed e-newsletter because they often get invalid accounts. This also makes me wonder, why are left-handed people so bad at entering in their e-mail correctly?
If I were to think logically, I’d realize that the amount of lefty’s I know is normal, and that it makes sense for my family to be almost entirely lefty because it is passed down through your genes, but unfortunately my overly creative and imaginative right-brained mind keeps me from accessing any sort of reason.
Also, apparently we’re going to die sooner than righty’s. It’s on our own site, so it must be true.
There’s No Hugging in Baseball
Dear Jon,
Lately, I’ve been super athletic, and I’m not entirely sure why. It started two weeks ago when I was part of a winning softball team. Basically, last Saturday I learned how to play softball, then on Sunday I played in a agriculture school softball tournament and my team won (won!)! Thats like… six games! As it turns out, I am not that bad at softball. This makes me wish I would have played when I was little. My team was not the most athletic group, and we all assumed we would be there from 10am till about 10:30 after losing our first game, but next thing you know it was 3pm and we were still in it! And I didn’t even get a sunburn!
This weekend I was just as athletic, but a lot less successful. We had a capture the flag tournament and my team.. lost. However, it was just as fun.
But remember when I won a softball tournament!?!?
This video is so cool! Such a unique take on the economy and how it effects people differently. Plus, SKATEBOARDZ!
Too Many Cooke’s in the Kitchen…
Dear Jon,
As you may know, I don’t really cook. I mean, the fact that I’m 21 and a high school graduate means I can find ways to obtain food/nourishment, but really cooking a meal is just difficult. It’s kind of like how my mom is so bad with directions.
Anyway, this week I discovered my friend Jeff is a rather pro in the kitchen, and makes real (!) dinners for himself quite often. I was very impressed by this, and when he said that he bakes too I decided I had to see for myself (not really but I wanted cupcakes).
Jeff has his own favorite cupcake website, so we chose a recipe off of it: Cinnamon Toast Crunch cupcakes.
http://www.yourcupofcake.com/2011/10/cinnamon-toast-crunch-cupcakes.html
So Jeff came over, and I sat around and watched as he slaved over some cupcakes for a while. This didn’t really teach me anything about cooking or baking, but it was delicious!
One day we worked in a basement of Our Daily Bread, which serves one meal a day to over 500 homeless people. They also have an after-school program for children to go and do arts and crafts and have a snack, but the week we were there the children were on spring break, so: we cleaned. We hung out in the cellar of the building and sorted mugs for a few hours. I have never seen so many mugs before in my life.
